According to reports, an F-15 fighter jet was shot down, after which one of the pilots managed to eject, while search and rescue operations were launched for the second crew member.
It was also reported that an A-10 attack aircraft was hit near the Strait of Hormuz. Its pilot managed to steer the aircraft toward Kuwaiti airspace before ejecting.
The Iranian military announced the downing of at least one of the aircraft and released images of the wreckage.
These events constitute the first losses of combat aircraft in a conflict since 2003, when the United States lost an A-10 during the invasion of Iraq. In the context of the current confrontation, the total number of US aircraft lost in operations related to Iran has reached seven.
