Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning indicated that many international academicians and Japanese voices have been concerned about these changes.
Mao noted that the measure marks a fundamental shift in Japan’s arms export policy after World War II.
The spokesperson affirmed that the modification contravenes documents with the force of international law, such as the Cairo Declaration, the Potsdam Proclamation, and the Japanese Instrument of Surrender.
The official underscored that the proposal also violates the Japanese Constitution and current domestic laws.
Mao added that these changes weaken the postwar institutional safeguards designed to prevent the resurgence of Japanese militarism.
