According to a statement from the Iranian police, the detainee was a “key figure” who maintained alleged contacts with foreign media and actors considered hostile by the authorities.

During the operation, security forces seized photographic equipment and digital files that, according to the statement, were ready for shipment.

The statement also exoressed that the individual was allegedly involved in violent incidents during the protests that took place in the country last January.

In a related development, the head of Iran’s judiciary, Gholam Hossein Mohseni Ejei, urged the acceleration of sentences against individuals accused of collaborating with entities considered enemies.

Iranian media also reported that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mukhta Khamenei ordered the expedited prosecution of detainees whose involvement in espionage activities has been proven.

The announcement comes amid escalating tensions in the region since late February, when Israel and the United States bombed Iran, leaving thousands dead and wounded, according to Iranian sources.
