Sri Lankan Buddhist leaders bless Cuban people

Colombo, Apr 7 (Prensa Latina) The Venerable Mahanayake Theros (Buddhist leaders) of Sri Lanka delivered Cuban Ambassador to this nation, Patricia Pego, a blessing message for the Cuban people, diplomatic sources informed.

Religious authorities welcomed Pego to their respective temples, Malwatta and Asgiriya, belonging to the Siyam Nikaya chapter, in the city of Kandy.

They placed a sacred white thread on the diplomat’s right wrist, bearing a special blessing symbolizing protection, respect, and good wishes for the people of the Caribbean nation.

The Cuban diplomatic mission in Sri Lanka stated that the Buddhist leaders were interested in Cuba’s economic situation and the impact of the energy blockade.

They also expressed solidarity with the Cuban people, in addition to blessing them to face the current complex situation and continue resisting until the US economic, commercial, and financial blockade is lifted.

They also condemned the US and Israeli military aggression against Iran and advocated for peace.

The ambassador was accompanied by two Cuban citizens (Milayda Martinez Gomez and Milagros Isaac), residents in Sri Lanka for over 30 years, along with their respective husbands, both graduates of Cuban universities, and their children.
