South Asian parties voice solidarity with Cuba

New Delhi, Apr 8 (Prensa Latina) The Communist, workers', and left-wing parties from South Asia urged the governments of the region and the Global South to offer firm support to Cuba, which is under siege by the United States.

The Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) Liberation (CPI (ML) Liberation), the communist parties of Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Nepal, and the Workers’ Party of Bangladesh issued a formal call for support of the Caribbean nation.

Sri Lanka’s Democratic Left Front (DLF), the Frontline Socialist Party (FSP), and the Lanka Sama Samaja Party (LSSP), as well as Pakistan’s Haqooq-e-Khalq Party (HKP) and the Mazdoor Kisan Party (MKP), also signed the statement.

The signatories of the document also acknowledged the unwavering resistance of the Cuban people and expressed their confidence that Cuba will not surrender.

They stated that, while the Cuban Revolution continues to defend its sovereignty against the intensified aggression of US imperialism, their organizations are united in demanding the immediate and unconditional end to the illegal US economic, commercial, and financial blockade against Cuba, which has lasted for more than six decades.

These organizations also condemned the extraterritorial nature of the 1996 Helms-Burton Act, which, they asserted, violates the sovereignty of third-party states, disrupts global trade, and stifles Cuba.

They also reiterated their rejection of the US designation of Cuba as a state sponsor of terrorism, which they described as a cynical political fabrication intended to paralyze the Cuban economy and incite regime change by depriving the population of access to basic products such as medicine and fuel.
