Sri Lanka launches campaign for Cuba and against US blockade

Colombo, April 8 (Prensa Latina) The "Break the Blockade. We Stand with Cuba" campaign remains active nationwide, boosting solidarity and collecting donations for the Caribbean nation, which is suffering under the economic siege imposed by the United States.

Organized by the Frontline Socialist Party (FSP), the initiative is taking place in two stages, the first one from April 7 to 12 and the latter from May 6 to 12 of this year, diplomatic sources informed.

Prominent figures from Sri Lankan civil society, including musicians, filmmakers, academics, journalists, economists, doctors, editors, lawyers, and religious leaders, participated in its launch.

Representatives of political and mass organizations, such as the Association of Sri Lankans Graduated in Cuba, were also present, all united in their respect, admiration, and solidarity with the Cuban Revolution and the Cuban people, the Cuban Embassy in Colombo stressed.

The speeches focused on the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States on the Caribbean nation for more than 60 years and its consequences for the Cuban people.

The resilience of the Cuban people during six decades of aggression and threats from the United States was also highlighted.

Cuban Ambassador to this nation, Patricia Pego, conveyed the gratitude of the Cuban government and people for the solidarity and support of the Sri Lankan people.
