The initiative was launched last night at an event held in the Salvador Allende Hall at the PS headquarters to collect medicines to send them to Cuban hospitals.
Ismael Calderon, president of Comunal Santiago, told Prensa Latina, “This is a gesture of reciprocity because many young socialists can practice medicine here today thanks to having graduated in Cuba.”
Jorge Madrid said, “Cuba has always been in solidarity with Chile. I remember that during the Popular Unity government, they helped us with food shortages by sending us sugar.”
Luis Astudillo, mayor of the Pedro Aguirre Cerda district, stated that he was one of the Chileans who were received at the Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM), whose objective was to train doctors of science and conscience.
Cuban Ambassador to Chile, Oscar Cornelio Oliva; Vivian Delgado, chief advisor at the Foreign Ministry, and Rosario Rodriguez, first secretary in charge of political affairs, attended the event.
