In the telephone conversation, the Italian leader reiterated her full support for the negotiations that begin today in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, to move forward a lasting peace, according to a statement published on the official website of the Prime Minister’s Office.
During the conversation, both leaders discussed the prospects for a comprehensive solution to the conflict and agreed to remain in close contact, the statement added.
Furthermore, they expressed concern over the continuation and intensification in recent hours of Israel’s aggression against Lebanon, including attacks on Italian UN forces in that country, and agreed on the need for coordinated international action to prevent further escalation.
Meloni reaffirmed to the Pakistani Prime Minister her government’s position in favor of an agreement “that guarantees the exclusively civilian nature of the Iranian nuclear program, the sustainable reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and a regional security framework,” the document adds.
