The head of the Hospital Services Department of the Provincial General Directorate of Health, Hansel Caballero, reported that the equipment will be primarily dedicated to the care of infants under 28 days old.
Based at the main hospital in this eastern province, the ambulance will provide coverage to all 14 municipalities for the transport of life-threatening newborns, regardless of their condition.
Caballero specified that the total number of ambulances recently received includes seven Foton vehicles, which are already in service in the towns of Sagua de Tanamo, Antilla, Mayari, Urbano Noris, Gibara, and Cacocum.
The acquisition of this equipment, planned by the Ministry of Public Health, was completed despite the restrictions imposed by the United States embargo against the island, the official noted.
This equipment is part of the efforts to offer more comprehensive healthcare and protect health from the first days of life.
