“In an increasingly complex world, we reaffirm our support for the Cuban people, their Revolution, and their right to sovereignty,” the ANAIC stated regarding this event, which will continue until Sunday, marking the 65th anniversary of that group.

With more than 3,500 members gathered into some 70 chapters nationwide, the Association was founded on April 19, 1961, as part of the support in Italy for the Cuban people during the mercenary invasion on Playa Giron (Bay of Pigs), in the island’s central-south region, where the first major defeat of US imperialism in the Americas was inflicted.

The organizers stated that this Congress will also pay tribute to the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro, on his 100th birthday, to be celebrated on August 13.

“We look back with pride on all that we have built from 1961 to this day, but we keep our eyes on the future. The journey continues!” states the call to this event, where they will “strongly renew their condemnation of the criminal US blockade that has unjustly attacked the island for six decades.”

In statements to reporters before the start of this Congress, ANAIC President Marco Papacci emphasized that the decision to hold this event in Pescara is due to the outstanding work done by the Association’s local chapter, which is very active in its solidarity with Cuba.

More than 100 delegates elected at local assemblies, who will work on political, solidarity and cooperation, communications, organizational, statutes, and electoral committees, responsible for electing the new secretariat, are attending the meeting.
