Salam described the ceasefire, announced by US President Donald Trump, as a key demand of the Executive since the beginning of the conflict.
The head of Government noted in a message on his X profile that the cessation of hostilities was a central objective during his recent visit to Washington and congratulated the Lebanese people on what he considered a significant achievement.
The prime minister also expressed his gratitude for the regional and international diplomatic efforts that contributed to reaching the agreement, particularly those of the United States, France, the European Union (EU), and several Arab countries, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, and Jordan.
However, the Lebanese Army Command informed that multiple ceasefire violations, including Israeli attacks and intermittent bombings of several towns in the country’s southern region, were recorded.
The military institution urged the population to postpone their return to villages and cities in these areas and follow the instructions of deployed units, especially at night, to avoid risks.
The ceasefire, agreed upon for ten days, came into effect at midnight, Beirut local time, in an attempt to contain the escalation of violence in the region.
