At the ceremony, which was attended by local authorities and members of the Nicaragua-Cuba Parliamentary Friendship Group, Ambassador Iliana Fonseca highlighted the origins of the relationship between the two peoples.
“It was born from the shared struggle, the sacrifice of our peoples, and a common identity forged in resistance against injustice,” she stated.
In remembering the historical origins of these ties, she made reference to the exchanges between Jose Marti and Ruben Dario in New York, where—she emphasized—a vision of dignity and a shared destiny for Our America was sown, which over time was consolidated in the cooperation and solidarity between both nations.
Fonseca also highlighted the close relationship between historical leaders Fidel Castro and Daniel Ortega, whom she described as steadfast and visionary for strengthening not only political ties but also the connection between the peoples of Cuba and Nicaragua.
During the ceremony, a tribute was paid to First Lieutenant Carlos Ulloa, an illustrious son of Masaya, on the 65th anniversary of being killed in action while fighting m the U.S. invasion at the Hay of Pigs, who is an example and a symbol of internationalism, courage, and dedication.
The Cuban diplomat, who warned of the dangers of U.S. imperialism, reiterated that Cuba and Nicaragua must continue walking together, defending their achievements and reaffirming that the solidarity between their peoples is stronger than any adversity.
