The president made this statement to the press after arriving at the IV Meeting in Defense of Democracy and the colloquiums held under the auspices of the Global Progressive Mobilization at the Fira de Barcelona’s Gran Via venue.

He commented that these peace efforts could potentially contribute to a near-instantaneous reduction in oil prices and create a space for food security, “because one of the most significant effects of the closure of the Strait of Hormuz was world hunger, the spread of world hunger.”
Petro added that humanity must reflect on designing a new agenda that moves away from oil and toward the decarbonization of the economy.
The day before, the Colombian president also condemned the blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba, calling it “genocide.”
