It is also part of the structural transformation of the national energy system, characterized in recent years by a significant incorporation of renewable sources and greater diversification of the energy mix.

According to data from the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining (MIEM), half of Uruguay’s energy supply in 2025 will come from biomass, according to the Preliminary Energy Balance.

The country ended March with an electricity mix where 89.5 percent of the energy produced was renewable, with wind power having the greatest impact, surpassing hydroelectric power.

Hydrocarbon-based electricity generation surpassed its highest level in three years, although it remains a minority sector, according to the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining (MIEM).
