Cuban Tourism Counselor for South America, Jose Antonio Aguilera, spoke exclusively with Prensa Latina about his country’s participation in Uruguay’s first national tourism expo.
“In Uruguay, we’re working to revitalize the destination through marketing and participation in key events,” said the Cuban counselor.
He mentioned the upcoming LGBTQ inclusive tourism event in September and the workshop for travel agencies from the interior of the country, which will take place in Paysandu.
Aguilera explained that the “Cuba Unica” (Unique Cuba) campaign, as part of its strategy, focuses on the potential of western Cuba, taking advantage of Copa Airlines’ air connectivity through Panama.
The proposal links Havana with its people, classic cars, and traditions, with nature and the Tobacco Route in Pinar del Rio, and the beauty of the Vinales Valley, he explained.
And regarding the obstacles imposed by the ironclad blockade against Cuba and the fierce media campaign that accompanies it, he emphasized: “The great risk for Cuba is that, when you get to know it, especially its hospitable people, you’ll fall in love with it,” he concluded.
