The Foreign Ministry stated that Abdelatty and Ishaq Dar addressed the issue in a telephone call. Both sides expressed their hope that a second round of talks between Washington and Tehran would lead to a ceasefire and de-escalation, the text noted, although that possibility has diminished in the last few hours.
The two foreign ministers reaffirmed that diplomacy and dialogue are the only viable way to resolve the conflict, which began on February 28 following a joint US-Israeli strike on Iran.
They also agreed to hold regular consultations on related developments in support of regional security and stability.
Although the first round of high-level talks, held in Islamabad with the direct participation of representatives from Tehran and Washington, concluded without an agreement, the mediators continue to press for further meetings.
