On the anniversary of the Cuban victory at Playa Giron, the march, convened by more than 30 political, labor, and social organizations, took place to show the Galician people’s rejection of the United States’ blockade of Cuba and their solidarity with its Revolution.

“The bond between the Galician and Cuban peoples goes back a long way, and the alert regarding imperialist aggression is constant,” they emphasized.

According to the organizers, the demonstration marked a milestone in the path of solidarity that the Francisco Villamil Galician-Cuban Friendship Association has been developing for more than 42 years, with the participation of around 3,500 people. “For the past year, Galician solidarity has focused on sending social and medical supplies via shipping containers. The first shipment arrived in Cuba in March, and work is underway to send the next one in July,” they noted.

At the end of the march, a statement was read listing the participating organizations, and singer-songwriter Xose Constenla performed Silvio Rodriguez’s song, “La era esta pariendo un corazon”. In Madrid, hundreds of people participated in a demonstration in support of Cuba and against the United States blockade, marching through areas of the city center.

From the Atocha roundabout to the Plaza de la Provincia, next to the Plaza Mayor, the march took place, during which songs were sung, slogans were chanted, and signs were displayed demanding an end to the White House’s hostility toward the Caribbean island.

The State Movement of Solidarity with Cuba (MESC) in Spain organized the demonstration under the slogan “For the end of the United States blockade of Cuba.”
