As Economy Secretary Marcelo Ebrard announced in the last few days, the Mexican delegation will be headed by US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, who also plans to meet with President Claudia Sheinbaum.
The first meeting on this phase of the agreement took place last month in Washington, D.C., with Mexico focusing on the continuation of the agreement, which also includes Canada, and the elimination of US tariffs.
“There will be sessions to review, sector by sector, things that matter to us and are of interest: steel and aluminum, the automotive industry, the entire agricultural sector, our concerns, and our proposals,” Ebrard stated, previewing elements of the second round.
The economy secretary also mentioned the interest in addressing issues such as rules of origin, the coordination of trade policies between the two countries, and ways to replace imports, noting that several industries will have the opportunity to present their viewpoints.
As a result of the first round of bilateral technical talks, Mexico and the United States agreed on March 18 to examine specific options for increasing manufacturing production and employment in both nations.
