Six months after the announcement of a ceasefire in the territory, the humanitarian crisis is being forgotten as the world’s attention shifts to other parts of the Middle East, the NGO warned in a statement.
The organization noted that conditions inside Gaza are deteriorating where more than two million people remain displaced in the coastal enclave, most of them sheltering in makeshift tents while facing floods and storms in winter and high temperatures in summer, it stressed.
The Committee emphasized that “families are forced to survive without access to the most basic and vital supplies, deprived of the essential goods needed to live in safety and dignity.” People remain trapped in a cycle of violence due to ongoing airstrikes and military operations that endanger their lives, the institution criticized.
It also warned that “basic infrastructure, such as health, water services, and aid operations, continue to be severely hampered.”
In this regard, it noted that the health system in Gaza Strip has virtually collapsed, where 94% of hospitals in the territory have been destroyed or damaged in Israeli attacks, it emphasized.
Health centers lack resources and are increasingly unable to provide adequate care, while the destruction of schools has left children facing an uncertain future, it pointed out.
The IRC called on the international community to prevent further loss of life and deemed it essential to increase funding and international aid to protect civilians, ensure the safety of humanitarian workers, and restore medical evacuations.
