The CITMA is tasked with directing, implementing, and monitoring state and government policy on science, technology, and the environment, the use of nuclear energy, standardization, metrology, and quality control.
It also develops projects integrating these objectives for the country’s sustainable development.
In the midst of the Special Period (a deep economic crisis), the CITMA was established on April 21, 1994, at the initiative of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro.
The historic leader always championed the idea that science and intellectual thought were fundamental pillars of a nation’s development.
