Exhibition honors Fidel Castro’s ties with Casa de las Americas

Havana, Apr 21 (Prensa Latina) The Latin American Gallery at Casa de las Americas in this capital hosts the opening on Tuesday of the exhibition "The Century of Fidel," one of the offerings in the program for the 66th edition of the cultural institution's Literary Prize.

The exhibition features approximately 60 pieces, including photographs, humorous drawings, engraving, and paintings, all belonging to the Haydee Santamaria Our America Art Collection, except for a few works by designer Pepe Menendez, visual artist and humorist Ares, and photographer Humberto Mayol.

The public will also find works by photographers closely associated with Fidel Castro’s life and work, such as Raul Corrales and Alberto Korda, Silvia Llanes, director of the institution’s Visual Arts Department, told Prensa Latina in an exclusive interview.

The exhibition will remain open to the public until December this year, as a tribute to the 100th birthday of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro and his link to Casa de las Americas and the Literary Prize.

Archival documents enrich this visual experience, which seeks to connect with the viewer from within the institution, where “Fidel: Posters in Revolution” is also on display.

The 66th edition of the Casa de las Americas Literary Prize runs until April 24, and includes several activities, although the main course is the award ceremony in the categories of Testimonial Literature, Historical-Social Essay, and Theater.
