Chile launches book to support solidarity campaign with Cuba

Santiago, Chile, Apr 22 (Prensa Latina) The Alejandro Lipschutz Institute of Sciences (ICAL) hosted the launch of a compilation of texts by Cuban essayist and historian Fernando Martinez Heredia, who won the National Prize for Social Sciences and Humanities.

“A Incendiar El Oceano” (To Set the Ocean Ablaze) is the title of the volume published by Editorial Popular La Pajarilla, sponsored by the Latin American and Caribbean Continental Network of Solidarity with Cuba, to raise funds for the Solar Panels campaign for the island.

The institution told Prensa Latina that the 207-page book contains three fundamental texts: “The Exercise of Thinking,” “Education, Culture and Socialist Revolution,” and “Socialism.”

The volume also includes an interview by Argentine Hernan Ouviña with Martinez Heredia, who was also a philosopher, entitled “Fernando Martinez Heredia, an Incendiary of the Oceans in the Cuban Revolution.”

Mario Almeida, from La Tizza online magazine, highlighted, during the book’s launch last night, the importance of this thinker for understanding Cuba’s current reality, marked by the accession of US President Donald Trump to power and his aggressive policies against the Revolution.

Elizabeth Molina, from the Continental Network of Solidarity with Cuba, said this movement decided to focus its efforts on raising funds to equip the island with solar panels and move toward energy independence, in the face of the oil blockade imposed by the United States.

Rosario Rodriguez, First Secretary of the Cuban Embassy in Chile, expressed her gratitude for the book’s launch, stating that Martinez Heredia was a defender of the popular and social movements of Latin America, and his thought is universal.
