SECH President Isabel Gomez stated that supporting the island at such a sensitive time, when the siege imposed for 65 years by the United States to subjugate this sister nation is being tightened, is an ethical duty.
Gomez noted that the group has always been closely linked to the literary history of Cuba.
She said, “Many Cuban authors, among them Roberto Fernandez Retamar, whom I had the privilege of seeing again at Casa de las Americas in Havana, passed through here.”
SECH Secretary General Edmundo Moure explained that the idea of launching a solidarity campaign with Cuba arose in conjunction with the Southern Publishers Association and is rooted in the deep love that has grown between the two peoples throughout history.
Moure told Prensa Latina that the group considered it faire, necessary, and imperative to carry out this initiative, particularly because of the extraordinary symbolism of the Cuban Revolution.
