Cuba to present in Geneva report on racial discrimination

Geneva, Apr 23 (Prensa Latina) A Cuban delegation, headed by Deputy Prime Minister Ines Maria Chapman, will present a periodic report to the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD).

The document shows the joint work of institutions, agencies, and organizations linked to the National Program to combat this scourge and the fulfillment of Cuba’s obligations as a State Party to the International Convention on Racial Discrimination since 1972.

The Cuban delegation will also include representatives from the Supreme People’s Court, the Attorney General’s Office, and the Ministries of Education, Health, Culture, and Foreign Affairs. Representatives of civil society will also participate.

Since 2018, the year of Cuba’s previous presentation to the CERD, legislative reforms have been promoted that strengthen the legal and institutional framework for the protection of human rights, with an emphasis on equality and non-discrimination, according to a document released by diplomatic sources in Cuba.
