The meeting, held at Major General Calixto García Stadium, served as a platform for representatives of the province’s 15 unions to reiterate their willingness to maintain job security despite the complex energy situation and the tightening of the U.S. blockade.
According to Idalmis Serrano, general secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Cuban Workers’ Federation (CTC), the local Revolution Square will be the main venue for a day of events that will also extend to 13 municipalities and 52 communities to facilitate participation.
Serrano noted that this year’s International Workers’ Day celebrations are dedicated to the centennial of the birth of the Revolution’s historic leader, Fidel Castro.
The parade will recognize veterans of the Bay of Pigs invasion on the 65th anniversary of the conflict, as well as the National Association of Innovators and Rationalizers (ANIR), an organization celebrating five decades of work in the search for solutions to material shortages.
Prior to the commemoration, work collectives are carrying out tasks supporting food production and sanitation in neighborhoods, as part of the activities marking the date that commemorates the achievements of the labor movement since 1959.
