Following this initiative, launched in September by solidarity, cultural, and labor organizations in Italy, more than 300,000 euros have been raised to date for several projects on the island, the Collettiva online newspaper reported.
A release published in this news outlet, the official publication of the Italian General Confederation of Labor (CGIL), stated that the project’s results are considered positive, with only a few days remaining before its closing date on April 30.
In addition to the CGIL, considered the largest labor union in Italy, the Italy-Cuba Friendship Association (ANAIC), the Italian Association for Social Promotion (ARCI), the international solidarity program Nexus, and the National Association of Italian Partisans (ANPI) joined forces to boost this campaign.
This effort, the text notes, began in September 2025, just a few days after Hurricane Melissa struck several eastern Cuban provinces, to help lessen problems with the National Power Grid (SEN), which was also affected by a tightened US blockade that has caused severe suffering to the Cuban people for more than 60 years.
The project became even more important after US President Donald Trump signed an executive order on January 29 to block the entry of fuel to that Caribbean nation.
