Lebanese President condemns Israeli attack on journalists

Beirut, Apr 23 (Prensa Latina) Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned Israel's deliberate attack on journalists as a crime against humanity, denouncing these actions as an attempt to conceal the truth about aggression against his country.

In an official statement, the president affirmed that such acts are punishable under international laws and conventions, and urged the international community to intervene to stop them.

Aoun also expressed his sorrow for the death of journalist Amal Khalil, who was killed in an Israeli bombing of the town of Al-Tayri in southern Lebanon, where her colleague Zeinab Faraj was also wounded.

According to official reports, both journalists were hit during an airstrike on a house, amid an escalation of military actions that continue despite the existing ceasefire.

Local media reported that Israeli forces obstructed rescue teams’ access to the site, preventing the arrival of the Red Cross and the Lebanese Army, and bombing roads to hinder ambulance traffic.

This comes amid renewed diplomatic efforts, with a second round of preliminary talks between Lebanon and Israel scheduled in Washington, seeking an agreement to end the conflict.

The ceasefire, announced on April 17 with an initial duration of 10 days, has been the subject of repeated allegations of violations, amid a toll of thousands of casualties and displaced persons since the start of the Israeli offensive on March 2.
