Cuba shows solidarity with Angolan province

Luanda, Apr 25 (Prensa Latina) Cuba is showing solidarity with the province of Benguela in central Angola, which has been affected by heavy rains and flooding this April.

Medical brigade members from the Caribbean nation are providing services to the population, under the guidance of local health authorities, particularly in the municipality of Ganda.

The most recent natural disaster— the overflowing of the Cavaco River and the breach of the left bank dike— has claimed the lives of 19 people, and 31 are still missing. Some 10,000 people have been displaced, and around 3,000 homes have been damaged.

For this reason, hundreds of Angolans remain in shelters, where aid is being delivered, while epidemiological surveillance is being strengthened, primarily in the city of Benguela, to prevent the spread of disease. Cubans residing in the country, members of the Cubans United in Angola Association, delivered a donation of food and other supplies to support those affected by the floods.

The Embassy of the Caribbean nation expressed its condolences and solidarity with Angolan authorities, the families and friends of the victims, and wished a speedy recovery to the injured and survivors affected by the natural disaster.

Also from Havana, the Cuban-African Friendship Association expressed its deepest sorrow for the devastating floods that caused numerous deaths, disappearances, and extensive material damage.
