Iran rejects EU sanctions and its link to human rights

iran-rejects-eu-sanctions-and-its-link-to-human-rights
Tehran, Apr 28 (Prensa Latina) Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ismail Baghaei affirmed that the sanctions imposed by the European Union (EU) on his country have no relation whatsoever to human rights.

Baghaei described the measures, in a post on the X platform, as “inhumane” and stated that they are designed to violate the fundamental rights of Iranian citizens.

The foreign minister asserted that these sanctions are politically motivated and criticized what he considered a double standard on the part of European leaders.

The statements came in response to recent remarks by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who noted that it is still premature to lift the sanctions on Tehran.

Von der Leyen argued that there are compelling reasons to maintain these measures and linked their possible lifting to a “radical change” in Iran, especially on human rights issues.

The Iranian response is part of the ongoing exchange of positions between Tehran and European actors regarding sanctions, foreign policy, and the impact of restrictive measures on the civilian population.
