Aoun noted, during a meeting at Baabda Presidential Palace with a delegation from border towns in southern Lebanon, that this position was communicated, since the beginning to the United States, which is leading the mediation efforts.
The president stated that this stance was reaffirmed during two ambassador-level meetings held in Washington on April 14 and 23, in which, he said, it was established that Israel must not conduct offensive military operations against Lebanese targets.
The head of State underscored that this is the official position of the Lebanese State and rejected accusations that characterize the talks with Israel as a form of betrayal.
He also remembered that the talks aim to halt hostilities, end the Israeli occupation of southern areas, and guarantee the deployment of the Lebanese army along the internationally recognized border.
Aoun affirmed that he aims to end the state of war with Israel through a formula similar to an armistice agreement, while also asserting that he will not accept an agreement he considers humiliating.
