This year’s agenda focuses on a comprehensive analysis of five Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), Goal 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and Goal 17 (Partnerships to achieve the Goals).
Convened by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), the event will run until April 30 under the theme “Changing Course: Transformative and Coordinated Actions for the 2030 and 2063 Agendas.”
The African Development Bank and other UN system bodies are also participating, reflecting the broad institutional coalition the continent is building for its development.
The ECA underscored in a statement that its outcomes will directly influence some of the most significant global political moments of 2026.
In-person and virtual attendees include leaders from the private sector, youth representatives, civil society groups, academicians, and development partners from across Africa.
The high-level meeting will generate formal African contributions for the United Nations High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) in New York, the 2026 United Nations Water Conference (UNWC), the 2026 African Urban Forum (AUF), and the 13th World Urban Forum (WUF).
