After the Burkina Faso Ministry of Security announced the new operations, an operation was launched yesterday to strengthen security throughout the country, requesting vigilance and information on any suspicious activity.
Special attention was requested to sensitive infrastructure, such as military barracks, airports, administrative buildings, and other facilities of national importance, in the search for operational intelligence related to crime and terrorism.
Burkina Faso, a Sahel country ruled by a military junta, has been affected for more than 10 years by waves of violence from Islamist groups and the Al-Qaeda terrorist network, which clash with the army, causing deaths and displacing thousands of people in communities.
During the first half of this month, the Burkina Faso army conducted ground and air operations in the Liptako, Nakambé, and Boucle de Mouhoun regions, inflicting losses on these armed factions, according to military sources.
Along with Mali and Niger, Burkina Faso is part of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES).
