True to its roots and its “unwavering commitment to the sovereignty of our homeland,” the organization considered these statements not only an attack on the peace of families on the island, but also a flagrant violation of International Law and the principles of self-determination of peoples.
In a statement, Accreven declared that, faced with this new attempt at intimidation by Yankee imperialism, Cuba is not a nation newly arrived in the struggle, but rather that its “freedom was forged in fire and blood” from the wars of independence in the 19th century until the definitive victory of 1959.
“Those who dare to threaten our land must remember that we are the children of (Jose) Marti, of (Antonio) Maceo, and of a Revolution that decided, forever, to be masters of its own destiny,” it reaffirmed.
Cubans residing in Venezuela recalled that, for more than six decades, the Caribbean nation withstood the “longest and cruelest economic blockade in modern history,” as well as terrorist attacks, sabotage, and disinformation campaigns.
They emphasized that no US administration, regardless of its political leanings, “has managed, nor will manage, to break the will of a people who have made creative resistance their best weapon.” From Venezuela, land of Bolivar and sister in struggle, Cuban residents “reaffirm that distance does not diminish our patriotism,” they declared.
Accreven asserted that Cuba is not alone and that the international community and Cubans of integrity everywhere will unite to defend the nation’s territorial integrity and peace.
“Enough of interference and war rhetoric! Cuba is and will ve a free and sovereign territory! Homeland or Death, We Will Overcome!” the statement concluded.
