In a message posted on the US social network X, on the occasion of Persian Gulf National Day, Ghalibaf emphasized the historical significance of the commemoration and remembered the expulsion of European colonial powers from the region in the 17th century.
“In 1622, we expelled the European colonizers from the Gulf after 115 years of occupation,” the Iranian legislator remembered. He added that “today, with the implementation of a new management model in the Strait of Hormuz, Iran will grant itself and its neighbors the valuable blessing of a future free from US presence and interference,” without offering details on the content or implementation of the initiative.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most strategic maritime routes, through which approximately one-fifth of globally traded oil passes, making it a sensitive point for international energy security.
The statements come amid regional tensions and stalled negotiations between Tehran and Washington regarding navigational security in this key waterway of the Persian Gulf.
