According to Israeli authorities, approximately 175 activists, including some 30 Spaniards, were detained aboard vessels belonging to the Global Sumud Flotilla, which were intercepted in the early hours of the morning in international waters south of Greece.
The president of the Generalitat (government) of Catalonia, Salvador Illa, deemed the seizure of the flotilla, which was more than 1,000 kilometers from the Gaza Strip, “unacceptable.”
Illa condemned Israel’s intervention in international waters on his social media account, stating that it “is contrary to international law and, therefore, unacceptable.”
He stated that the Catalan government is closely monitoring the situation, which affects “various Catalans,” and that it is “in contact with the relevant authorities to guarantee the protection of all individuals.”
The Tel Aviv regime issued a statement openly indicating that some 175 activists “from more than 20 boats in the condom flotilla are now calmly heading to Israel,” asserting that they were carrying “condoms and drugs.”
The Global Sumud Flotilla, responsible for the mission, emphasized that “there are about thirty people with Spanish passports being held captive by Israel.”
