The Ministry of Culture affirmed that the nation is also built upon the symbols and works of its creators. Whereever there is culture, there are roots; and where there are roots, there is a homeland, the governing body concluded.

The National Council of Performing Arts paid tribute to actors, playwrights, dancers, technicians, and artists, whose collective effort allows art to flourish in society.

It also emphasized that “they are the soul of a sector that unites and inspires us.”

The Cuban Film Institut participated in the parade with its workers, remenbering the words of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz in 1960: “Those who are right and know how to fight for it will prevail.”

More than six decades later, the Cuban Film Institute affirmed that Cuban cinema remains a symbol of unity and resistance.

For its part, the Cuban Book Institute proclaimed “Yes for Cuba” on behalf of its workers, while the Casa de las Américas cultural center sent a message of firmness and moral strength “for peace, for sovereignty, for our socialism.”

With its workers in the streets from early morning, Casa de las Américas accompanied its message with historical images of Haydee Santamaria, Mariano Rodriguez, and Roberto Fernandez Retamar, and reminded the public that an exhibition of posters dedicated to the centennial of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro is on display on the second floor of its headquarters.

The presence of these and other institutions in the sector at the May Day commemoration demonstrated that culture is also a front in the struggle and a space for unity.
