Along with Spain, the governments of Türkiye, Brazil, Jordan, Pakistan, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Colombia, the Maldives, South Africa, and Libya joined in criticizing Israel.
In the statement, they deplored the actions of the Tel Aviv regime against the Global Sumud Flotilla, a peaceful, civilian humanitarian initiative aimed at drawing the international community’s attention to the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.
“Israeli attacks on ships and the illegal detention of humanitarian activists in international waters constitute flagrant violations of international law and international humanitarian law,” the statement emphasized.
The ministers also indicated that they expressed deep concern for the safety of the civilian activists and urged Israeli authorities to take the necessary steps to ensure their immediate release.
At the same time, they called on the international community to fulfill its moral and legal obligations to uphold international law, protect civilians, and ensure accountability for these violations.
The day before, the Spanish Foreign Ministry summoned the chargé d’affaires of the Israeli Embassy to express its strongest condemnation of the arrest of the members of the Global Sumud Flotilla.
Israel once again seized a flotilla carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza and detained approximately 175 activists, including some 30 Spaniards.
