The newspaper featured in its headlines the collection of more than six million signatures in support of the “My Signature for the Homeland” movement, in defense of peace and national sovereignty.
The newspaper also reported on a post on the social media platform X by president Miguel Diaz-Canel, in which he invited the international community to see it as an authentic expression of the Cuban people.
The president also shared an image of the historical leader of the 1959 Revolution, Army General Raul Castro, according to the newspaper.
“Anyone who wants to know what Cuba is, anyone who wants to truly know us, should see the parades and events of this May Day,” the president wrote
La Estrella newspaper notes that in his message, Diaz-Canel also referred to the more than 6,230,000 signatures collected in support of peace, rejecting the U.S. economic blockade and opposing war, emphasizing that these reflect the sentiments of broad sectors of the population. The president also stressed the sense of belonging and commitment of Cuban workers, stating that the celebrations demonstrate “a hardworking people celebrating Labor Day, because they own their land and are willing to give their lives for it,” the report adds.
On the island, May Day fiesta included massive parades in several cities, with the march in Havana and a rally in front of the U.S. Embassy being the epicenter of the gatherings to celebrate the workers’ holiday, whose central slogan was “The Homeland Defends Itself.”
