The event, presided over by the President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Diaz-Canel, brings together 766 delegates from 36 countries and a total of 152 international organizations in solidarity with the island.
Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez reported on the impact of the economic and financial blockade imposed by the U.S. government on the island, as well as the updated coercive measures applied, which were intensified by the Trump administration less than 24 hours ago.
“We will continue fighting with the commitment that this is the revolution of the humble, by the humble, and for the humble. This is the revolution of the workers who took to our streets yesterday to march and demonstrate that the Homeland will defend itself,” Rodríguez stated.
For his part, the president of the Cuban Friendship Institute, Fernando Gonzalez, expressed his gratitude for the presence of foreign solidarity during such turbulent times, describing it as the international defense of Cuba’s right to be a sovereign and independent country.
“This meeting is strengthened by the hope of millions of people who have fought for their political rights, the same rights that we, gathered here today, defend, to multiply our actions and thus strengthen our capacity to fight, resist, and respond to the imperialist escalation,” González added.
The gathering represents an opportunity for nations to strengthen unity in a context where hegemony is undermining sovereignty and international law.
The day will also include the International Symposium on Trade Union Work, where the working class will delve deeper into its role within humanity.
