Omar al-Waeli, director of the Border Ports Authority, announced that this action marks the beginning of the activation of that crossing as a strategic corridor for energy trade.
According to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Al-Waeli explained that the trucks laden with crude oil crossed into Syrian territory in accordance with established regulatory and security procedures, under the supervision of the relevant authorities.
The official emphasized that this initiative will help alleviate pressure on other ports, diversify trade routes, and support the national economy by increasing revenue.
He also underscored that the use of land ports is a relevant alternative for reducing risks associated with traditional export routes.
He further pointed out that the authorities are working to expand the operational capacity of the Rabia crossing, as well as to develop its infrastructure and logistics services, with a view to handling larger volumes in the future.
The measure aligns with the Iraqi Government’s directives aimed at strengthening the role of border crossings as economic hubs and fostering trade cooperation with neighboring countries.
