In a statement released in this capital, the organization denounced Washington for falsely and unjustifiably labeling the Caribbean nation as an extraordinary threat and expanding the economic blockade, directly affecting strategic sectors such as energy, defense, mining, and financial services.

  “The blockade imposed by the United States, which is considered genocide under international law, not only generates multimillion-dollar economic losses but also directly affects the daily lives of the Cuban people,” the statement emphasized.

  It also considered it a “disgrace to humanity that this collective punishment (which is prohibited internationally) is permitted, generating anguish, suffering, and limitations in access to health, education, and food.”   The MCSC condemned the deprivations that the unilateral blockade imposes on healthcare and explained how this situation hinders access to essential medicines and affects more than 90,000 patients awaiting surgery, including 11,000 children.

  “We reject the increased threats from the United States regime of an imminent military intervention against Cuba, a sovereign nation whose people alone should continue to decide their own destiny. Military action against Cuba cannot be tolerated; Latin America and the Caribbean is a zone of peace,” the statement said.

  The movement also called on national and international society to support Cuba in ending the blockade and expressed that it is unacceptable to be “a passive spectator of this crime against humanity.”
