“The safety of navigation and energy transit has been compromised as a result of the blockade imposed by the United States and its violation of the ceasefire,” Ghalibaf stated.
The parliamentarian added that Washington cannot sustain the current situation, while also warning of his country’s capacity to respond.
The statements come amid stalled negotiations between the two sides, following a round of talks held in Pakistan that yielded no concrete results.
On April 13, the United States initiated a naval blockade against Iranian ports, including those with access to the Strait of Hormuz, prompting a response from Tehran through maritime traffic restrictions.
In this context, US President Donald Trump announced an operation aimed at ensuring the passage of ships in the area, while Iranian authorities warned that any foreign military presence in the strait would be considered a provocation.
For his part, the head of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, Ebrahim Azizi, described any attempt by Washington to interfere in the regulation of maritime traffic in the strategic passage as a violation of the ceasefire.
To date, there has been no official US reaction to the statements by Iranian authorities.
