Korchunov, who gave an interview to TASS on Tuesday, indicated that NATO countries have repeatedly demonstrated their willingness to restrict freedom of commercial navigation with their illegal actions, violating international regulations, “under the false flag of fighting the so-called shadow fleet.”
The Russian ambassador stated that NATO members, with their characteristic arrogance, tend to consider the Baltic Sea as their own private lake.
In the drills led by the United Kingdom, scenarios of naval blockade and capture of the Kaliningrad region are being practiced.
The diplomat noted that London is also seeking to strengthen control over strategic maritime communications in the North Atlantic region, drawing on the resources of its European allies, including Norway, to accomplish this task.
Korchunov emphasized, “The seriousness of such plans cannot be underestimated: the alliance has the necessary naval capabilities, and the international regulations have never been a serious obstacle for the West when it comes to fighting to maintain its dominance in world affairs.”
The Foreign Ministry is carrying out the corresponding work on all relevant international platforms in close interaction with the countries of the global majority that, like us, consider categorically unacceptable the West’s neocolonial claims to maritime dominance.
