In a statement released by its embassy in Seoul, Tehran categorically rejected reports that point to Iranian forces as responsible for damage to a South Korean-flagged vessel.
The diplomatic mission stated that the security situation in the strait has changed due to actions by the United States and stressed the need for ships to respect established regulations and coordinate their transit with Iranian authorities.
It also warned that any incident resulting from non-compliance with these regulations will be the responsibility of the parties involved.
The statements come after US President Donald Trump accused Iran on May 4 of attacking a South Korean vessel while it was sailing through the Strait of Hormuz.
The region remains a hotbed of regional tension, amidst disputes between Washington and Tehran and ongoing military operations surrounding maritime and energy traffic.
