According to the agency, the current government prioritized the energy transition, and one of its achievements is the installation of more than 23,000 rooftop solar panels and the prevention of nearly seven million tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
According to government data, during Gustavo Petro’s administration, 4,100 megawatts of photovoltaic solar energy were added, while efforts are being prioritized to unblock projects that had been stalled for years.
The Minister of Mines and Energy, Edwin Palma, recently stated that the adoption of the “6GW+ Strategy” was the institutional response needed to untangle obstacles, adapt and speed up regulations, and improve the political climate, which had deteriorated due to the failed “Alfa and Beta” wind farm project.
He also referred to the boost given to the Energy Communities program (associations of people, communities, or users who join together to manage and consume their own energy from renewable sources) and Colombia Solar, whose objective is to help low-income households generate their own energy and eliminate electricity subsidies.
In the official’s opinion, the legal and regulatory framework, as well as the political climate, are in place to attract more investment in clean energy to the country and for companies to advance in decarbonization and enter the electricity market.
