In a message posted on the social network X, the Foreign Minister reported that he granted an interview to the US media outlet, in which he reiterated Cuba’s willingness to engage in dialogue with the Washington government, always on the basis of respect for the island’s sovereignty and self-determination.
The day before, the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs rejected the executive order issued by the White House on May 1, 2026, which it described as an “act of ruthless economic aggression” that escalates the blockade against the island to extreme levels.
The Foreign Ministry also condemned the inclusion of the companies Gaesa and MoaNickel S.A. on the US Treasury Department’s Specially Designated Nationals List, as the first coercive measure stemming from that order.
The official statement warned that these actions multiply the extraterritorial effects of the blockade, with the application of secondary sanctions to foreign companies, banks, and entities, even if their business in US territory is not linked to Cuba.
