Intellectuals debate on fascism at Casa de las Americas in Cuba

Havana, May 9 (Prensa Latina) To commemorate the anniversary of the Victory against fascism, Casa de las Americas in Havana opened its Manuel Galich room for the reflection forum "Voices Against Fascism." The forum was convened by the Cuban Book Institute, the Network in Defense of Humanity (REDH), the Union of Journalists of Cuba (UPEC), and the International Committee for Peace, Justice, and Dignity for the Peoples.

The first panel discussion included Uruguayan economist Gabriela Cultelli, historian Ernesto Limia, and essayist Víctor Fowler, Casa de las Americas reported on social media.

The specialists assessed how fascism emerged in the 20th century and how it is reappearing today as an instrument of domination in the face of the crisis of capitalism.

They also underscored the continued existence of repressive and totalitarian practices, the reproduction of authoritarian tendencies in Latin America, and the cultural impact of a discourse that classifies the majority as expendable.

The second part of the discussion featured Dr. Ana Teresa Badia, Argentine journalist Graciela Ramirez, and novelist and essayist Abel Prieto, president of Casa de las Americas, the publication added.

They analyzed the role of communication and memory in the contemporary struggle between progressive projects and the rise of the far right.
