Uruguay: Thousands of spaces filled in shelters for vulnerable people

Montevideo, May 11 (Prensa Latina) In recent days, 9,232 spaces have been filled in Uruguay to assist people experiencing homelessness, it was revealed.

These figures were released by the National Emergency System (SINAE) regarding the red alert for low temperatures and the operation involving several state institutions.

The shelters run by the Ministry of Social Development (MIDES) assisted 7,722 people, and another 1,510 went to evacuation centers coordinated by SINAE, which include facilities run by the Police and the Army.

During Saturday’s operation, 390 people experiencing homelessness were transferred, and 10 arrests were made for contempt of court, eight of them in Montevideo and the rest in Canelones.

Regarding healthcare, 16 people required medical attention, and one of them had to be transferred to a health center. The Ministry of the Interior arranged for vulnerable people to be transported to care centers.
