Cuba opens workshop on Marti and Holguin

Holguin, Cuba, May 13 (Prensa Latina) Authorities and experts inaugurated the "Marti for Holguin Residents" workshop to delve deeper into the thought of the Cuban National Hero.

The event, which marks the closing of the Day of Affection celebrations, was described as a landmark event by Hector Niles Avalos, president of the Jose Marti Cultural Society (SCJM) in the province, as he welcomed researchers and artists.

During the opening ceremony, PhD. Yuricel Moreno Zaldivar delivered a keynote address on the representation of Marti’s image in the visual arts and the evolution of his iconography from Neoclassicism to contemporary aesthetic ruptures.

The specialist highlighted the paradigm shift that occurred starting in the 1980s, when various works marked a trend toward humanizing the Apostle, presenting him with his passions and achievements from a more intimate perspective.

Moreno Zaldivar emphasized the work of local artists such as Julio Breff Guilarte and Jorge Luis Cudina, who, along with other artists from the region, have succeeded in integrating Marti’s figure into the area’s sense of identity and cultural pride.

The workshop is organized into working groups made up of children, young people, and adults, where topics such as the anti-imperialist thought of Marti and Fidel Castro, and the educational value of the Apostle’s letters to Maria Mantilla are analyzed.

This academic and artistic event reaffirms the relevance of studying Marti’s thought in Holguín as a living and necessary endeavor for safeguarding cultural identity.
