Cuban singer Beatriz Marquez receives Legendary Artist status

Havana, May 13 (Prensa Latina) Cuban singer Beatriz Marquez, nicknamed "La Musicalisima," received the Legendary Artist status from the Empresa de Grabaciones y Ediciones Musicales (Egrem- Cuban Recording Company), a distinction that highlights her career and extensive recording output.

La Musicalísima’s excellence throughout her professional career and her sensitivity to Cuban music made her deserving of this recognition, previously awarded to figures such as poet Miguel Barnet, pianist Frank Fernandez, and singer Omara Portuondo.

“I’m happy; this is proof that I have always followed a certain path, even when I collaborate with young people who work in other genres, always defending our music,” the artist told Prensa Latina, regarding her position as a leading figure in Cuban art.

During the ceremony, Egrem’s director, Renier Rodriguez, stated that it was a very important moment for the company, which has maintained ties with the composer since her youth.

Beatriz deserves all the honors from Egrem, Rodriguez noted.

Also in attendance were Mabel Castillo and Orlando “Maraca” Valle, president and vice president of the Musicians Association, and Neris Gonzalez, president of the Musicology Section of UNEAC (National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba).

“I want to emphasize that we’re dedicating this day to women in the music industry; to the leading role, strength, and drive that women have historically played in Cuba within the industry,” Neris Gonzalez stressed.

In addition to the awarding ceremony, it was presented the making-off documentary for the album “Nueva Era” (New Era), by Orlando “Maraca” Valle and the Camerata Cortes, a joint production of Egrem and Colibri Productions, which received five nominations at the Cubadisco Awards.
